These are a few finds from Friday. If you know me, you know my #1 weakness is for vintage cards, papers and gift-wrap. I just want to wrap empty boxes and give them to people. Surprise! … There is no gift inside, the wrapping is the gift. Tee hee… The joke is that I love to give a $2.00 gift but it’s wrapped in $10.00 vintage gift-wrap and trim.
I found these old Valentine cards and gift-wrap at My Sister’s Antiques in Loganville, GA. It’s right down the rode from my home, but this was the first time I’ve checked it out. Isn’t it fun to check out new places? Especially when you find they are GOOD places. In my youth, I actually had the exact bear Valentine. When I saw it, I recognized it immediately. Wow…why did that memory stick, but I can’t remember what I just went upstairs for?
I found these adorable sleepy-eye dolls. I see these types of dolls all the time, but these were special. I love the one with the purple hair. I got it to put up for ____. I can’t say, but by the way, did I ever tell you that I had a niece named Violet Chelsea-Bell? I HAD to get the doll with shabby trim. There were several of these dolls in a box. Each doll had been stored for years in a clear bag with an old note pined to them. Each note said where the doll came from originally and what the occasion was. For example, the one I purchased says “I was sticking out of the top of Kathy’s birthday cake on her 14th birthday. Aunt Betty’s Aunt Edna made Kathy’s cake. It was made like a large skirt for me and had white icing with pink decorations, if I remember correctly”. When I read it, I just wanted to cry. HOW SWEET IS THAT? Why don’t people now-a-days get it? It’s the little notes that someone took the time to write that mean so much. It’s so sweet that someone saved the note on the doll all those years. But so sad that someone eventually parted with it.
Did you see this idea in the September, 2010 issue of Country Living Magazine? They took various wallpaper samples and covered a wall. I’m going to give this a try on a small wall in my creative workspace area. Right after I saw the article, I found these wonderful samples of vintage wallpaper at Vintage Village Antiques in Snellville, GA. This is another great shop that I stop by often. I have an idea for a variation of the patchwork wallpaper wall. I’ll let you now how it turns out. I also picked up the beautiful shabby rose plate and two pair of curtains at Vintage Village. I’ll use the plate for cake or for fruit, cheese and crackers. The price on the curtains was so good, I couldn’t pass them up. Taking the idea from the mixed wallpaper samples, I might mix the curtain panels on the window in my creative workspace. Now that would really be shabby. Hmmm…
